I’m Angelita, an autistic woman who transforms her story into voice and action.
Diagnosed at age 2 with Level 1 Autism Support, I have turned my lived experience into a mission: to raise awareness about autism and create more accessible and empathetic spaces for our community.
As an autistic activist, I bring my message to foundations across Colombia, supporting autistic youth and adults on their journey, as well as families seeking to understand and support with love. I’ve also spoken out about the bullying I experienced from childhood into adulthood, including workplace discrimination. In my last corporate job, I was dismissed under the claim that I wasn’t prepared for the challenges—simply because I am autistic.
Today, I transform every challenge into an opportunity to support others. Through my Instagram account @angelitaempoderando, I share tools and insights that may help you along your own journey.
My commitment to the autistic community has led me to:
- Be a member of Fundación Conectando Corazones and Mundo Para Todos.
- Collaborate with Soy Neurolover, a community that offers safe spaces, resources, and guidance for the neurodivergent community.
- Participate in the Semillero AIDUA Project at Universidad de La Sabana, focusing on disability, accessibility, and Universal Design for Learning.
- Serve as a member of the ODC Network for Dentistry and Disability, advocating for oral health care access for people with disabilities.
- Present at the Abraza la Sonrisa Congress with the talk “The Power of Resilience and Socialization in Autistic Adolescents.”
- Participate in Neurodivagantes, the podcast by Neurovision TV, where autistic adults interview notable individuals involved in neurodiversity projects.
- Speak at the 5th Ibero-American Autism Meeting organized by Iluminemos por el Autismo with the presentation “The Power of Resilience in Autism.”
- Direct DinoTribu, a space where autistic teens can discuss the issues that matter to them.
- Mentor 10 youth-led businesses by autistic and ADHD children and teens through Fundación 6 Sentido, teaching them about entrepreneurship and social media.
- Support multiple initiatives as a community manager and agenda coordinator, collaborating with nonprofits, a dentist specializing in autistic patients, an autistic entrepreneur, an inclusive-focused optician, and a writer.
- Soon, I’ll be offering a training program for entrepreneurial mothers of autistic children and for autistic adults launching their own businesses.
Autism, self-love, and empowerment are the pillars of my journey—because autism is not a limitation, but a unique way of being and experiencing the world. I believe in the power of embracing ourselves fully, in the strength that comes from self-acceptance, and in the inspiration that grows when we share our stories with the world.
