Sophia Jackman

Sophia Jackman is a passionate advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and for mental health awareness. She was born three months early due to complications from twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a condition that can affect twin pregnancies. As a result, she suffered a grade 4 brain hemorrhage that, although it later stabilized, left her with mild spastic cerebral palsy with right hemiplegia, characterized by weakness on the right side of her body.

Yet throughout her life, Sophia has shown extraordinary determination and perseverance. For her, cerebral palsy does not define her limits; it is part of her identity and of the person she is today.

As a child, Sophia never imagined she would be able to walk, ride a bike, swim, shoot a basketball, tap dance, play softball, or play musical instruments such as the harp, the piano, and the viola. None of these activities was easy for her, but with effort, dedication, and persistence she learned them all. Her disability has never been an obstacle to continuing to explore her abilities and reach her goals.

Inspired by her own experiences, Sophia created @skye_fullofstories, a platform for advocacy and awareness around disability and mental health. This space is dedicated to empowering and supporting people who live with disabilities or face mental health challenges, as well as their families, friends, and allies, fostering a sense of belonging, connection, and support.

Through her Instagram account, she shares personal experiences, educational content, awareness-raising information, tips, and reflections on disability and mental health. Her mission is to help people feel supported, valued, understood, and connected to a community that recognizes their experiences and needs.

Sophia is deeply passionate about defending the rights of people with disabilities and promoting emotional well-being. Her interests include writing, photography, travel, graphic design, web design, and audiovisual production.

Her core values include inclusion, perseverance, creativity, curiosity, kindness, and a spirit of adventure, principles that guide both her personal life and her commitment to others.

Sophia is currently pursuing university studies at Arizona State University, specializing in Disability Studies, strengthening her academic preparation and her commitment to advocacy, education, and awareness about the rights and experiences of people with disabilities.
