My Perspective as an Adult Living with Down Syndrome
Matthew Schwab is a 26 year-old North Carolina native who recently realized a life-long dream of living on his own, in an apartment with his younger brother. Matthew is the oldest of 3 boys.
He graduated from High School in June 2017 with an Occupational Course of Study diploma and in May 2019, he completed Project Search, an internship-based educational program, at Wake Technical Community College.
In addition to being a public speaker, Matthew works at Ruckus Pizza, Pasta & Spirits.
Matthew also serves on the Board of Directors for GiGi’s Playhouse Raleigh: a Down Syndrome Achievement Center and First in Families of NC.
Matthew and his fiancé have been learning ballroom dance for about 3 years.
Matthew is passionate about raising awareness about Down syndrome and the entire IDD community. In 2019, he gave a TEDx talk about the importance of employing those with IDD and he continues to spread this message. Matthew hopes to help change the way the world sees Down syndrome.
