Dorcas Mateu Gonzalez is a Registered Dental Hygienist with three decades of experience; she’s also a devoted wife and mother to her amazing children. Born in Holguin, Cuba, Dorcas immigrated to Miami as a young child. While she had the opportunity to pursue dental school in the United States, she chose Dental Hygiene to prioritize her family’s needs. Her dedication to her family shines through her decision to focus on them despite her professional qualifications.
For the past 27 years, Dorcas has dedicated herself to caring for her three special needs boys. She embarked on an “on-the-job training” journey from their early childhood, navigating psychologist appointments, neurologist consultations, speech therapy sessions, occupational therapy, behavior therapy, and liaising with the state agencies for healthcare assistance, including obtaining Medicaid waivers for her son.
Her commitment to her family led her to carve a flexible career path as a Mary Kay Sales Director, where she not only excelled professionally but also served as an inspiration to nearly 200 women on her team while driving the iconic Pink Cadillac.
Dorcas’s philanthropic spirit shines bright as she raised over half a million dollars during the 54th annual South Miami Hospital Baptist Health Mercury Ball for the Child Development Center. She also played a pivotal role in developing a program at Baptist Health, providing work experience opportunities for special needs high schoolers and subsequently employing young adults with unique abilities.
As a board member of The DeMoya Foundation, Dorcas continues her mission to improve employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, co-leading a Bible Study Fellowship Group, and offering support to mothers of special needs children, helping them navigate the challenges of raising youngsters with unique abilities.
Dorcas’s passion, fueled by her belief that “with God, all things are possible,” makes her an inspiring figure for mothers facing similar situations, showcasing resilience, dedication, and a heart full of love for her family and community.
